In Apex Legends, movement is a weapon. A player with average aim but excellent movement will beat a great shooter who stands still — because in this game, speed makes you harder to hit, positioning wins third parties, and rotations decide which team arrives at the final ring alive. Here is how to build your movement from the ground up.

Start with the foundation: the slide-jump. Slide down any slope and jump at the end of the slide to carry your momentum much further than sprinting alone. Then practice holding crouch as you land so you slide on landing, chaining the movement together. These two techniques alone will change how fast you rotate across the map, and they are the basis for everything advanced that follows.

Next, learn the environment's movement tools. Ziplines let you traverse huge distances and take high ground instantly — jump off them early and steer to land where you want. Jump towers launch you into the air for fast repositioning; practice landing exactly where you plan. Wall jumps, where you sprint at a wall, slide, jump into it and jump again on contact, give you extra height and direction changes that confuse enemies chasing you.

Rebind your keys for movement. The default layout makes advanced tech awkward — binding jump to a mouse button or scroll wheel makes repeated bunny-hopping far easier and keeps your thumb free for crouching during gunfights. A 'Button Puncher' style layout that puts crouch on the right stick click lets you slide without taking your thumb off aim. Try a few options in the firing range and keep whatever feels natural.

Use abilities as movement tools, not just combat powers. Each legend's kit offers rotation options: grapples, jump pads, portals and speed boosts all double as escape and repositioning tools. Get into the habit of using at least one ability per fight — even in games like Fortnite, where mobility items decide rotations, the players who move creatively survive longest. In Free Fire, the same principle of using terrain and abilities to reposition applies.

Finally, practice with purpose. Spend time in the firing range drilling one technique until it is automatic — slide-jumps one day, wall bounces the next — then take it into real matches. Record your fights and watch how often you die standing still versus moving. And study how pros rotate in major tournaments; their movement looks effortless because it is practiced, not because it is natural.
