Physint is the upcoming action-espionage game from Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions, and it is one of the most closely watched games in development, partly because so little of it has actually been shown. What follows is what has been confirmed publicly, what has been reported, and what is still unknown, as of October 2026. Where a detail comes from a report rather than an official announcement, this article says so.
Physint was announced on 31 January 2024 at PlayStation's State of Play event, as a collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment. Kojima described it at the time as both a game and a movie, a new action-espionage title that would push beyond what the genre had done before. Because Kojima no longer works at Konami, it cannot be a Metal Gear game, even though it is clearly the genre he built his name on.
The publishing story changed in 2026. In mid-June 2026, PlayStation Studios told Kojima Productions it was stepping away from the project, a decision Kojima later discussed publicly. On 9 September 2026, Xbox was confirmed as the new publishing partner, with Kojima Productions saying it remains committed to redefining the action-espionage genre. Whether the game will also come to PlayStation has not been announced, and Kojima has said that question is for Xbox.
The cast has been revealed in stages. At the studio's tenth-anniversary event on 23 September 2025, the first poster appeared alongside three cast members: Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe. On 17 September 2026, during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show broadcast, Bill Skarsgard was confirmed as the lead, alongside a new poster. Skarsgard is a long-time fan of Kojima's work, according to Kojima himself.
The freshest details came on 5 October 2026, when Kojima discussed the game on KOJI10, his radio show. He said the story outline is complete, though the full script is still being written, and that the actors have already been scanned, with full performance-capture filming planned to start next year. He also said around 70 percent of the cast are fans of his work, that most character names are settled, and that he wants Physint to be a different kind of spy action, full of new ideas rather than a retread of his earlier games. Kojima says the name itself is a word he coined, pronounced fiz-int.
What is not known is almost as important. No release date has been announced. No platforms have been announced. The engine is undecided: Kojima has said he is still experimenting and has not settled on Decima, the Sony-owned engine behind Death Stranding. Back in May 2025 he said the game would take another five or six years, so even with filming starting next year, Physint is still a long way from release.
For fans, the honest summary is this: Physint is real, it has a publisher again, its story is set, its lead is cast and scanned, and filming starts next year. Everything beyond that, including when you will actually play it and on what, is unconfirmed. Treat any claimed release date or platform list you see online as speculation until Kojima Productions or Xbox announces it.
